“Inclusion, Social Responsibility and Entrepreneurship. Social Innovations for Community Development and Youth Engagement”

The Spring School is held as part of the implementation of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence project ESSIE “European Social Innovation Studies in Education” (101085552 – ESSIE- ERASMUS-JMO-2022-COE) and in synergy with the Erasmus+ KA2 project UNICOM “Universities-Communities: Strengthening Cooperation” (10108307 – UNICOM — ERASMUS-EDU-2022-CBHE) and the Jean Monnet Module “European Practices of Social and Economic Inclusion” (101127466 – EPSEI – ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH). It also supports the sustainability of the Jean Monnet Chair “Social and Cultural Aspects of EU Studies” (SCAES) (620635-EPP-1-2020-1-UA-EPPJMO-CHAIR). The Spring School is held with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine.

Main Directions of the Spring School

  1. Third mission and social impact of universities for societal development.
  2. European practices of social innovations and social entrepreneurship in education.
  3. Social cohesion in Ukraine: engaging youth and communities.
  4. Social inclusion, its types and perspectives.
  5. Social responsibility of universities in overcoming societal crises.

Within the Spring School, an international internship at the University of Genoa will take place, as well as an advanced training program from the Institute of Higher Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine. The program includes webinar training by Professor Diana Spulber, workshops by Professor Marja Nesterova, Professor Maryna Dielini, and leading researcher Olena Orzhel on the topics of social innovations, social responsibility, and social inclusion.

Also, for independent study, the following courses will be provided: “EU Inclusive Policy”, “Social Responsibility of Universities”, “EU Social Inclusion”, “Third Mission of Universities”, as well as “Social Entrepreneurship and Innovations in University and Community Development”, “European Policy of Social Cohesion”, “Economic and Legal Foundations of Integration and Community Engagement: European Experience”. Apart from the online conference and distance courses, weekly mentoring support will be offered.

The Spring School will run from March 17 to April 18, 2025, with a total workload of approximately 180 hours (6 ECTS credits). A corresponding certificate will be awarded upon completion, subject to passing the test assignments and active online participation. Participants will gain new practical tools drawn from the best European practices in the fields of social responsibility and inclusion, social cohesion, social innovation ideas, social entrepreneurship, and principles of community engagement for the sustainable development of universities and society.

The online part of the Spring School will take place from March 17 to March 21, 2025, from 12:00 to 17:00 Kyiv time (11:00 – 16:00 CET).

Roundtable discussion on “Educational Policies for Strengthening the Third Mission of Universities” with participation of experts from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine – March 17, 2025, from 13:00 to 17:00 (Kyiv time).

Conference “Social Cohesion in Ukraine: Youth Engagement and Community Development” organized by the Faculty of Sociology and Social Policy, Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University, will be held in a hybrid format on March 19, 2025, from 12:00 to 17:00 (Kyiv time).

Roundtable “Social Inclusion and Its Dimensions” will take place online on March 20, 2025, from 12:00 to 17:00 (Kyiv time).

Mentoring sessions will be held every Friday from 12:00 to 13:30 (Kyiv Time) on the following dates: March 28, April 4, April 11, and April 18, 2025.

Participation in the Spring School “Inclusion, Social Responsibility, and Entrepreneurship. Social Innovations for Community Development and Youth Engagement” is free of charge, funded by the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence project “European Studies of Social Innovation in Education”.

The Jean Monnet Center of Excellence “European Studies of Social Innovation in Education” (ESSIE) at Dragomanov Ukrainian State University initiates and oversees initiatives of the academic community in the field of European Studies related to social innovations, leadership, social responsibility, and public governance. The project is interdisciplinary and international: its team includes representatives not only from Dragomanov Ukrainian State  University and other Ukrainian universities (NUBiP, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Sumy National Agrarian University) but also European experts from Italy, Germany, and the Czech Republic.

The project duration is 36 months. The head of the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence “European Studies of Social Innovation in Education” at Dragomanov Ukrainian State University is Professor of the Jean Monnet Department “Social and Cultural Aspects of European Studies”, Hab. Doctor of Science in Philosophy, Professor Marja Nesterova.
